Will 3D Modeling Ever Be This Good?

Having the power and ability to manipulate a 3D object such as clay or PlayDoh in your hands is pretty awesome. The point of 3D CAD software is to mimic the reality, but it isn't the same as using a real tangible art medium. Sometimes what you design on the computer isn't exactly what comes out of your 3D printer. It is a process of experimentation.

Do you think technology has the ability to compete with modeling in the physical world? What is your favorite rendering program? I personally like the idea of building something out of clay, scanning it into the computer and creating a .stl for your 3D printer. Or better yet scanning and printing a person.

  1. Check out this blog; he's developing LiveClay (voxel sculpting) for Blender, which is kind of like what you're looking for I think.
